Environmental Justice
Notes:
- The country focused on reducing the amount of pollution emitted into the air when it became eco friendly.
- The envrionmental laws are good and there have been good outcomes from them.
- For example, it has helped clean out the air in LA, so it looks much better than what it had been before.
- In the 1990's researches began looking at who lives around the polluting cities that remain? Who breathes in the dirtiest air? Who lives near the most toxic waste facilities? Who lives near the companies that emit the most amounts of pollution?
- A new political movement has emerged called the environmental justice movement.
- They are working to ensure that people of all races, cultures and income levels are treated fairly.
- Some of the problems included why the communties could handle living in areas with Latinos and African Americans families that had low income levels.
- Soe, of the reasons might be because the land where these companies are built on are cheap, they want "less political resistance from their community", or they can't afford housing in urban areas.
- It is not certain that the government will help with the environmental justice movement.
- There is a long way for poeple of all races can live in an environment with clean air and water.
- We are taking the fisrt step in making proccess.
